Introduction to Historia

Historia specializes in authentic Spanish Colonial art, folk art, Mexican retablos and ex-votos, santos, paintings, dance masks, ceramics, textiles, ethnographic art and much more. In our gallery you will find a superb selection of art and objects from Latin America, with an emphasis on nineteenth and early twentieth century Mexican devotional and folk art. Historia also offers select objects from various other cultures.

We focus on folk objects that reflect the intertwining of religious and cultural beliefs with the fabric of everyday experience. They may take the form of a ceremonial dance mask, an ancestral altar cross, a lacquer hope chest, a traditional textile, a carved saint, or a devotional painting from a household shrine. Also included in our inventory are ceramics, furniture, books, jewelry, and silver objects.
